Understanding responsible drinking

Beverages containing alcohol are often associated with sharing, pleasure, unwinding, and socialising. However, there are times when drinking at all, or too much can be risky to you or to others.

This website, and the national information websites it links to, will help you work out how much is too much and to weigh up the pros and cons when deciding to drink. Responsible drinking means:

·       Drinking enjoyably, sociably and pacing yourself.

·       Not drinking at all in situations when the effects of alcohol will put someone's safety or health at risk – such as
when driving, when pregnant or in certain work situations.

·       As a parent it means being aware of the risks associated with underage drinking and setting an example of moderation.
It also means that as a parent you should take an active role in setting limits for your children not to drink.
